Day 8

After eating breakfast (I’m sure you can guess what we had), my roommates & I made our way to school. For class today we will be visiting Gothic Sevilla: The Cathedral & Giralda tower.

The Giralda is the bell tower of the Seville Cathedral. It was originally built as a minaret during the Moorish period, with a renaissance style top subsequently added by Spainards. After 35 Ramps, we made it to the top. The view of Seville was one I’ll never forget.

The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the see, better known as Seville Cathedral, is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Seville. It is the largest Gothic cathedral and the third largest church in the world. There are 17 chapels within it. While in the cathedral I was able to see many things which included: the tomb where parts of Christopher Columbus’s body is burried, the largest alter in the world, and so much more.

As my roommates and I made our way back to the apartment, we ate lunch and relaxed for about an hour before having to leave again. Tonight we are going to “Heraldo de los Reyes Magos”- every year Kings Herald goes through the center of the city to gather the letters with the wishes of the Sevillian children and distribute candy (similar to a parade). As we stood in the street waiting for the parade to come, I couldn’t help but notice a mother holding their child with their pants down over a drain while it peed. It was amusing at first, and then our tour guide told us that’s totally normal to do here. To watch a clip about this tradition, click the link: Heraldo de los Reyes Magos

As we stood during the parade, I couldn’t help but notice how pushy the people of Spain are, and how they don’t seem to care about personal space. Although it was a parade & there were many people, this is something I’ve noticed on the daily.

After we made our way back to our apartment we studied for our midterm tomorrow before eating dinner. I know, we have actual homework to do, I can’t believe it either (lol). Once we finished eating dinner (rice w/veggies) we ended our night by watching The Lizzie McQuire movie on Netflix. Buenos Noches!
