Day 9

Today was unlike any other day I’ve been here thus far. In a good way? I wouldn’t jump to that conclusion. After a good nights rest & breakfast, my roommates & I made our way to school to take our midterm exam. Since the review & exam took up the entire class time, we didn’t travel anywhere for class today. Upon arriving to our apartment, my roommates & I ate lunch (papas fritas y pollo), and then took a much needed nap.

In Seville, (and many other places in Spain) there is a big parade, the Cabalgata (cavalcade) de los Reyes during the afternoon and evening of January 5, and large crowds line the streets to watch the parade go by. The unique feature of these processions are the sweets that are thrown into the crowds for the children to pick up.

The parade was so cool to see! Although we didn’t have a spot to stand towards the front, it was fun to see the Disney themed floats such as frozen, the little mermaid, Alice in wonderland, etc. There were about 30 floats total, and during the parade fake snow was shot out of a canon looking thing. It was very interesting. Also, candy isn’t pronounced “dulces” (like I was taught), but rather “Carmelo’s”. Funny thing is that I thought they meant Carmel specifically- boy was I wrong.

After standing for about an hour my roommates and I decided to make our way to la plaza de españa where there were many little shops & rides. Being the rebels we are, we chose to go on the Ferris wheel 🎡. It was huge, and so exciting to be on… until the pace started to pick up. I pulled out my snapchat app to see how fast we were going. At one point it said 8.5mph- as we started to rock back and forth a bit 😳. Thankfully this ferris wheel had bars all around it- as it was much different than the ones I’m used to back home, which made me feel much safer.

There were so many pretty lights around the city, so we stopped to admire them as we made our way back home.

Since tomorrow is another Spanish holiday, we don’t have school, planned activities, or meals made for us. We made a quick stop at the grocery store before returning home 🏡 and getting ready for bed. It’s hard to believe tomorrow is the last day we’ll be able to sleep in. Hasta Luego!
